| Like transmission line surveys, LIDAR data are well suited to producing sufficient accurate, elevation data for road and railroad design. Cut and fill quantities can be produced accurately for estimating purposes. As-built surveys can be produced as stand-alone records, or as a comparison with the pre-construction surveys to ensure quantities estimated were those contracted. LIDAR data are commonly used for the three dimensional evaluation of best routing for proposed corridors, and along with optional digital imagery, rectified to the DTM can provide a design team with all the topographic and planimetric information they need. |
